Chicago Hostel: The Growing Industry
Like many cities in the US, Chicago doesn’t offer a lot of hostel options. There are a total of 3 other legitimate hostels in Chicago besides Holiday Jones and Urban Holiday Lofts. While you might search Google and see more than 5, some of the options are just some building owner putting a room up for a vacation rental. they’re not really a hostel.
There seems to be a negative connotation in the United States when it comes to hostels. We’d rather stay in some seedy cheap hotel then share a room with another stranger. It’s a cultural thing. However, there’s been a trend in the United States regarding boutique fancy upscale hostels. In fact some hostels are getting to be fancier than hotels. We at Holiday Jones are striving to be at the top of this trend. We want to be part of the innovators that change the mindset here in the states from just a cheap place to stay, to a place you choose to stay regardless of price.
We want people to know that hostel doesn’t have to mean shared living space. that’s why we offer private rooms with private bathrooms. Even if one does find themselves only being able to afford a dormitory room, it doesn’t mean it’s college all over again. If you think about how often you actually stay at a hotel when you’re traveling or on a vacation, how much time do you really spend in your hotel room? Probably not very much.
In a city like Chicago, most travelers want to get out and see the city and have a nice clean place they can sleep at night. Unfortunately that can cost you up too $500 a night for a decent room In Chicago. that or you can stay at one of the seedy motels. It doesn’t have to be that way anymore. Many of our guests aren’t what you would expect to find a at hostel. They’re not just students studying aboard like in Europe, they are business travelers in town for a conference, a group of girls in town for a bachelorette party. or a group of friends in town to see their favorite band.
We’ve seen an increase in competition lately with the entrance of the The Freehand hostel chain. We expect with how much demand we’ve seen for our rooms that there is a new tide coming to Chicago. One where you don’t have to stay at a $500 a night hotel just to have somewhere decent to sleep. We hope to be at the top of this movement and we think we’re on the right track.
